Arrange two cameras in close proximity to a subject. Then press record. Close-Up is both a formal exercise and a video series taking a literal close look at Pittsburgh artists in performance. See more in this series here.
Guitarist Spencer Geer is a versatile musician, and he can be spotted in a number of local acts, including the psych-garage-prog Bat Zuppel, soul group Lyndsey Smith & Soul Distribution, and various solo and group jazz settings. For the first of a pair of Close-Up features, Geer improvises a fluid, rhythmic piece drawing from his jazz background. In part two, coming later this week, Geer ventures into singer-songwriter territory.
